How to Connect a Wii LAN Adapter

Unfortunately, unlike its counterparts, the Wii does not support online play. Instead, the system offers LAN (Local Area Network) capabilities so that the gamer can plug several Wii systems together for larger multi-player matches. The Wii LAN Adapter is easy to set up, and in a few minutes, you can be squaring off against your friends.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the Ethernet cord directly to the router or broadband modem. Make sure the Internet connection is working properly. In most cases the Wii won't connect, it's because the Internet connection is weak.

    • 2

Do not turn on the Wii just yet. Plug the other end of the LAN Adapter into the USB connection in the back of the system. Connect the Ethernet cord to the LAN Adapter.

    • 3

Turn on the Wii. There will be a short configuration period to properly connect the Wii to the LAN Adapter. Just follow the steps on the screen. If troubleshooting occurs, here's the manual method of connecting the LAN Adapter:
Click on the "Wii button," at the bottom left hand portion of the screen. That will go to the setting screen. Click on "Wii Settings," with the picture of a wrench. This moves into a menu entitled, "Wii System Settings 2." Select "Connection settings" and choose an empty space from the menu. Select "Wired connection" and wait for the Wii to detect the Internet connection.

    • 4

Repeat the process for any and all Wii's that will be participating in the LAN.
