Cook short-time items only when you have plenty of time to play the game. Short-time foods are the fastest to spoil and must be watched. Choose items such as the bacon cheeseburger, fruit salad, or chips and guacamole, which all take less than 15 minutes. Check back once the allotted time has passed; when the food is sparkling, it's ready to be served.
Create a food schedule if you have less time to play. Pick foods that will be done or close to done when you can get back to the game. If you can only check the game every four hours, pick foods that will cook within three or four hours.
Cook long-time food overnight. Start an item such as the pumpkin pie or overstuffed peppers right before going to bed. These items take 12 hours to cook, and will be ready when the player gets to her computer in the morning.
