How to Gem a Hunter in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm

Level 85 hunters in "World of Warcraft" need to fill every gem slot in their gear with the appropriate epic Cataclysm gem in order to increase DPS or damage-per-second for end game raiding and Zandalar dungeons. At lower levels, since you are still getting gear upgrades, you may want to save gold by filling slots with cheaper, lower quality gems to get slot bonuses and minor damage increases.

  Fill the meta gem slot on your head armor with an Agile Shadowspirit Diamond, which gives you 54 agility and three percent increased damage on critical hits. You need three gems in red slots to activate this meta gem. For PvP, you can substitute a Chaotic Shadowspirit Diamond if your playing style depends heavily on critical damage.

  Use the 40 agility Delicate Inferno Ruby in all red slots.

  Fill yellow slots with Deadly Ember Topaz for 20 agility and 20 critical strike rating. PvPers can use a Mystic Amberjewel for more resilience.

  Choose the gems for your blue slot depending on your hit rating. If you are close to the hit cap, use a Delicate Inferno Ruby. If you are below the hit cap, even after reforging, use either a Glinting Demonseye for 20 agility and 20 hit rating or a Rigid Ocean Sapphire for 40 hit rating. For PvP, consider a Stormy Ocean Sapphire to the spell penetration cap if you have reached the PvP hit cap.
