About Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros
This legendary two-handed mace has a very distinctive model, matching the model of the weapon used by Ragnaros during the fight in the Molten Core raid dungeon. Equipping it grants 12 strength, 12 stamina and 30 fire resistance. Any enemy who strikes you with a melee attack will be dealt 5 fire damage, and when you strike enemies with it you have a chance to also strike the enemy with a fireball, dealing 273 to 333 fire damage plus 75 extra damage over the course of a 10 second duration. Once you have obtained both the Eye of Sulfuras and a Sulfuron Hammer, place both items in your inventory and right-click on the Eye of Sulfuras to create Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros. Obtaining and equipping Sulfuras will grant your character a feat of strength.
Obtaining the Eye of Sulfuras
The Eye of Sulfuras is a legendary item which, when combined with a Sulfuron Hammer, will turn into Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros. This item is a rare drop from Ragnaros, the final boss of the Molten Core raid dungeon. All other bosses in the raid must be defeated before Ragnaros can be fought. The raid is designed for a group of 40 level 60 players, though it can be cleared alone by a well-geared level 85 character. You can only defeat the bosses in this raid once per week. Depending on your luck, obtaining the Eye of Sulfuras may take you several months or even years of clearing Molten Core every week.
Obtaining a Sulfuron Hammer
A Sulfuron Hammer is an epic two-handed mace that looks like a darker, nonglowing version of Sulfuras. This item, required to create Sulfuras, can be crafted by a blacksmith. It requires a large amount of materials, including eight Sulfuron Ingots, 20 Dark Iron Bars, 50 Arcanite Bars, 25 Essences of Fire, 10 Blood of the Mountain, 10 Lava Core and 10 Fiery Core. Purchasing the blacksmithing pattern for it requires an additional Sulfuron Ingot. Most of these materials, with the exception of the Arcanite Bars, can only be gathered from Molten Core. You may also be able to purchase them from the auction house.
Restrictions
Although characters of any class may obtain the required items and create Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros, only a few classes can equip the mace. If your character is not a druid, paladin, shaman, warrior or death knight, you will be unable to equip Sulfuras and therefore unable to gain the feat of strength associated with it, despite having obtained the item itself. Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros is a unique item. Even if you manage to obtain a second Eye of Sulfuras, you will be unable to create a second copy of it.
Sulfuras, the Extinguished Hand
Sulfuras makes a comeback in Firelands, a raid dungeon where Ragnaros reappears as a final boss. This new version of the item, called Sulfuras, the Extinguished Hand, is an epic two-handed mace with a model matching that of the mace Ragnaros uses while fighting in Firelands. This model is similar to that of Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros, although it is slightly more elaborate. There is no feat of strength rewarded for obtaining Sulfuras, the Extinguished Hand.
