How to Lower the Number of Animals in Minecraft

"Minecraft" is an online creation game that allows players to build any structure they desire. Resources are gathered through mining underground and are used for building materials. Animals populate the world of "Minecraft," ranging from harmless sheep, pigs and chickens to dangerous monsters such as spiders, wolves and skeletons. For a player hosting his own server, having too many animals in the game world can slow or even crash the server. To reduce the number of animals in "Minecraft" you can edit your server preferences file.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the"Minecraft" installation directory and locate your server folder. In the folder there should be a file named "Server.properties."

    • 2

Open the "Server.properties" file with a text editor. You will see various lines of information relating to your server.

    • 3

Locate the line "spawn-animals=true." Change "true" to "false" to turn off animal spawning completely. Do the same for the line "spawn-monsters=true" if you wish to turn off monster spawns.

    • 4

Add the line "natural-spawn-rate=#" where "#" is the chance percentage of an animal spawning. Increase the number to decrease the speed at which animals will spawn. For example, if you want a very slow spawn rate of animals then change the number to 99, which will give animals only a one percent chance of spawning.

    • 5

Save and close "Server.properties" and load your "Minecraft" server.
