What is Leeching?
Because "Maplestory" is designed to encourage members to group together, it offers an experience share to all members of a party as long as they are relatively close to one another in level. Leeching takes advantage of that share to allow a person to level their character without ever taking place in a battle. Because of the tiny portion of experience received when leeching at lower levels, it is inefficient below level 25. After your character reaches level 26, however, you can benefit immensely from leeching. However, for this to work you have to circumvent the normal level difference by utilizing an intermediate character.
What is a PG Mule?
Normally there would be no way for a level 26 character to get experience from a creature that was level 100 or more. The other members of the party would have to be too high of a level to offer an experience share. However, with a Fighter/Page character in your party who is within a few levels of yours, you can take a share of the experience, even if the third party member is well over 100 levels above. The low level fighter uses the "Power Guard" skill and attacks the high level foe. This "mule" character immediately dies. However, the Power Guard skill deals recoil damage back to the monster. When the third party member kills the creature, you will get a share of the experience.
How to Make a PG Mule
To make a PG Mule is relatively easy. Some guides claim you need to dedicate all your points to HP, but in truth, any assortment of statistics will suffice. The main goal is to be of a class and level combination where you can acquire the Power Guard skill. The main objective is to reach "Rage 3" skill as soon as possible so you can attain the ability. That said, if you are not familiar with prerequisites required to get skills, following the HP Warrior path is likely going to be your best bet for creating a PG mule. To level him with combat, however, will require you equip him with accuracy boosting items.
Conclusions
Leeching is viewed by many players as cheating, though in truth it is more accurately described as an exploit. That said, the stigma that comes with utilizing the technique can be hard to overcome. Many characters, especially those who are part of respected guilds, will refuse to socialize with you or assist you. PG mules have a similar problem because they are seen as contributors to what is generally viewed as a distasteful practice. That said, the promise of easy profits from PG mule services, and easy levels draws many people and there are no shortage of online guides of how to leech and create PG mules.
