How to Fix PS2 Video Games

PlayStation 2 games, like any other disc-based form of media, are susceptible to damage from dust, fingers and even simple heavy use. After a while the small nicks and scratches that form on the disc can lead to service interruption and, eventually, cause the game to stop playing altogether. Fixing these damaged PS2 discs is very easy, and only requires some toothpaste and a cloth.

Things You'll Need

  • PlayStation 2 Game Disc
  • Baking Soda Toothpaste (Crest, Colgate, or Arm &Hammer)
  • Lint-Free Cloth

Instructions

  1. Fixing a PS2 Game Disc

    • 1

Rest your PS2 disc on a flat surface so that the underside (the shiny side) is facing up.

    • 2

Apply a small amount of the baking soda toothpaste to the lint-free cloth. Spread the toothpaste on the cloth to even the toothpaste out.

    • 3

Wipe the scratches on the disc very gently with the cloth. Wipe from the inside of the disc (near the center) to the outside. Repeat this for all scratches on the disc.

    • 4

Wait for two minutes before washing the toothpaste off the disc. This allows the toothpaste to set inside the scratches.

    • 5

Allow the disc to air dry before attempting to place it inside your PlayStation 2 system. Once dry, the game is ready to play.
