Monster Rancher 2 Hints

̶0;Monster Rancher 2̶1; is a simulation video game that allows you to breed and train monsters to battle other monsters. The game has several different ways and places to obtain new monsters, including the Market, the Shrine, and breeding existing monsters. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. There are different strategies that you can use to gain an advantage over the competition. The following tips deal primarily with understanding the basic mechanics of the game and making the most of your game play.
  1. The Market and Shrine

    • There are three ways to obtain new monsters in ̶0;Monster Rancher 2.̶1; Buying new monsters at the Market is the fastest way to get new monsters. These monsters have average stats and abilities, and a limited number of different types are available. This technique is most useful if you want to try out a particular type of monster or just need one to breed a particular monster.

The Shrine can also generate new monsters. Using the Shrine prompts you to insert a new disc, which can be any CD, DVD, or PS2 game, and a monster will be generated based on the disc inserted. An important tip to remember is that the monster generated through the Shrine is not random. You will always get the same monster using the same disc. However, there's no obvious way to predict what monster any given disc will generate. The monsters generated by the Shrine will often be more powerful than their Market counterparts, but it is difficult to get a particular type of monster you may be looking for without a lot of trial and error.

    Breeding Monsters

    • Breeding monsters is the best method for getting the most powerful monsters in ̶0;Monster Rancher 2.̶1; Monster breeding combines the attributes of the two parent monsters to create a new monster. An important thing to keep in mind is that monster weaknesses are also combined.

There are two strategies to consider when selecting parent monsters. One strategy is to focus on breeding a monster with one particular strength by choosing parents that excel in this area, such as combining two monsters with high Power stats. The other strategy is to try and choose monsters that will compensate for each other's weaknesses. For example, combining a very fast monster with a slow monster will create a new monster with an average speed.

    Lifespan

    • Monsters in ̶0;Monster Rancher 2̶1; have a limited lifespan. Based on the type of monster and its actions over its lifetime, after a certain amount of time the monster will die and no longer be usable. This can be crippling if you're using a battle strategy that relies heavily on one particular monster. You should not wait until a monster dies to starting training a replacement. It's a good strategy to start training a replacement monster when your current monster has about 50 weeks left before it dies. This should give you enough time to get a decent replacement trained before it finally does die.
