How to Detect If a PS2 Game Is NTSC or PAL

PlayStation 2 games, like other games across most consoles, are developed within the confines of region codes. If you live in North America and own a console designed for that region, your console works with Region 1 DVDs and plays games in the NTSC format. However, European gamers have a different region code, and their PlayStation 2 titles are of the PAL format. Discerning whether a PS2 game is NTSC or PAL is easy to do and takes only a few seconds.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the top right corner of the game's cover art. Beneath the PlayStation logo is a small rectangular box. It reads "PAL" if the game is PAL, and "NTSC U/C" if it is NTSC.

    • 2

Look on the spine of the game's cover art near the bottom of the case. Another small rectangular box is here. It will read either "PAL" or "NTSC U/C."

    • 3

Open the game case and examine the game disc. Near the middle of the disc is a small rectangular box designating "PAL" or "NTSC U/C."
