Snowmobile Games for PS2

The PlayStation 2 has sports games to satisfy nearly every type of gamer. Even niche sports like snowmobile racing are represented by several games. Each snowmobile game contains a different style of play, which users should consider before purchasing.
  1. Arctic Thunder

    • "Arctic Thunder" was developed by Midway Games and released in 2001. The game focuses on fast-paced racing action, and aims more for excitement than realism. Players race snowmobiles through various snow-themed levels and collect weapon power-ups to attack other racers. Levels include the Swiss Alps, a winter sports park and a snow-covered Washington, D.C., where players can race through the White House. The game received poor reviews, with IGN's Doug Perry saying, "I highly recommend avoiding this game at all costs."

    Sled Storm

    • "Sled Storm" was released in 2002 by EA Sports, the same company that produced the critically acclaimed "SSX" snowboarding games. The game is a snowmobile racer with an emphasis on performing tricks. Each time the player performs a trick, he adds to his "Storm" meter, which gives him a speed boost. "Sled Storm" received the most positive critical reaction of any snowmobile game on PS2. IGN's David Smith gave the game a score of 8.5 out of 10, and called it a "worthy racing game." Try "Sled Storm" if you enjoyed the "SSX" games.

    Whiteout

    • "Whiteout" was developed by Vicarious Visions and released in 2002. The game is also a stunt-based racer, though it leans a bit more toward realism than "Arctic Thunder" or "Sled Storm." Players race through various tracks, and perform tricks and jumps along the way. Players must also steady their snowmobiles in midair to land properly. IGN's Chris Roper gave the game a 5.5 out of 10, noting, "Whiteout is a game that seems to have had some potential, but it just has too many bland spices and herbs in the recipe to taste like anything worth serving."

    SnoCross 2

    • "SnoCross 2" was developed by Crave Entertainment and released in 2007. The game is a stunt-based racer similar to "Whiteout." The game features World Snocross champion Blair Morgan as a playable character. In addition to the game's race courses, players can also create and edit their own tracks. The game also features online support, enabling players to race against each other over the Internet. IGN's Michael Pereira gave the game a 4.2 out of 10, saying, "The game is the very definition of 'generic' racer."

    Ski-Doo Snow X Racing

    • "Ski-Doo Snow X Racing" was developed by Valcon Games and released in 2007. The game is a snowmobile racing simulation that focuses more on realism than other snowmobile games. The player's snowmobile reacts realistically to the terrain, and players must properly manage weight distribution to gain an edge over opponents. PSXExtreme's Ben Dutka gave the game a 5.1 out of 10, saying the game "might be worth the budget price tag if--repeat, if--you're a fan of the sport. It's simply not an accomplished enough title to be worth it for anyone else."
