Mortal Kombat Armageddon Strategy Guide for PS2

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon was released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2 and is the last game in the series to be released on the platform as of October 2009. This entry into the fighting genre features over sixty playable characters from every previous release, meaning players will need to learn strategies for facing off against each combatant if they hope to achieve victory.
  1. Kombat

    • Mortal Kombat: Armageddon features two distinct types of combat, armed and unarmed. Players can alternate between these styles by pressing L1 on their controller. Armed combat allows players to wield a weapon specific to their character, such as a sword for Scorpion or Kitana's trademark fans. Unarmed combat is more common and focuses on the classic Mortal Kombat combat system of high and low punches and kicks combined with special attacks. The key to winning a match is to know the fighting style your opponent employs. Each character has a notable strength, such as Sareena's affinity for staying far away from her opponent and sending energy blasts or Sub-Zero's freezing ability combined with close sword swipes. Your task is to know which your opponent prefers and exploit this. If your opponent keeps back and tries to whittle your health down with distanced attacks then get close and switch to armed combat. Backing your opponent into a corner will allow for an easy win. However, if your opponent is trying to corner you with close combat, then play defensively and stay as far away as possible. Use your character's special moves, relying more on quick attacks and running out the clock rather than trying for a brutal victory.

    Fatalities

    • The Mortal Kombat series has been known for the combatants unleashing unique finishing moves that defeat opponents in an over-the-top, bloody fashion. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon's inclusion of every character in the series has the side of effect of not allowing each character to have their own fatality. Instead, the game introduces a create-a-fatality system where moves are strung together to dismember opponents before delivering a final blow such as ripping out his heart or knocking his head off his body. Up to nine moves can be combined, with the first move initiating the fatality and the final move being the finisher. It is important to note that if you do not finish the fatality with a finishing move, then you won't get credit for the fatality.

    Konquest Mode

    • While Mortal Kombat: Armageddon features an Arcade mode with one-on-one combat, the game also features Konquest Mode, a storyline that should be completed to unlock characters, arenas and additional costumes. The story mode is played differently than traditional Mortal Kombat, with players taking on multiple enemies at one time in a style similar to the spin-off game Shaolin Monks. You are forced to play as the newly introduced Taven, but during your adventure you'll learn of the events that lead to the final battle of the current Mortal Kombat series, and you'll earn rewards. Before you take on Konquest Mode, spend time practicing with Taven in the training mode. Become familiar with both his armed and unarmed combat, which will allow you to make short work of Konquest Mode's boss battles, which take place in traditional one-on-one matches.
