God of War 2 Instructions

Starting a Game

• Like all PS2 games, God of War 2 is started by turning on the machine and inserting the game disc. The main menu allows you to load a saved game or start a new game. When starting a new game, you can choose from three difficulty levels: Mortal, which is easy difficulty; Spartan, which is medium difficulty; and God, which is hard difficulty. If you finish the game in any of the difficulty levels, you will be given a fourth difficulty level, Titan, which is very hard difficulty. Choose your difficulty level to start the game.

Controls

• You will use all of the buttons on the PS2 controller to control Kratos throughout the game. The left analog control stick is used to move Kratos around the game world. The right analog control stick is used to evade attacks from enemies or environmental dangers that can pop up in the game. The "X" button is used to jump, and if tapped twice it can cause Kratos to perform a double jump, which launches him higher into the air.

  There are several methods of attack in God of War 2. A normal attack is performed by pressing the "Square" button. A light attack is performed by pressing the "Triangle" button. Normal attacks are slower but cause more damage. Light attacks are performed quicker but do not cause as much damage. The light attacks are beneficial when there are a large amount of enemies surrounding Kratos.

  Another method of attack is to grab an enemy by pressing the "Circle" button. You can perform additional attacks by pressing the "Square" and "Triangle" buttons when you grab an enemy, all of which cause a different amount of damage.

  The same attack buttons will work when Kratos jumps in the air. When jumping, press the "Square," "Triangle" or "Circle" button while in the air to perform these attacks.

  Finally, you will acquire the use of magic as the game progresses. You can choose which magical power you would like to use by pressing the arrow buttons on the directional pad and the "L2" button to use the selected power.

Blade Icon

• In the top-left corner of the screen is a blade icon that provides information on Kratos, including a health meter, magic meter, Amulet of the Fates meter, weapon icon and magic icon. When the meters are depleted, Kratos no longer has use of that feature, or in the case of the health meter, loses a life. The weapon icon and magic icon show which weapon and magic are selected.
