Instructions
Play "Final Fantasy X" until you reach the Mi'ihen Highroad. Playing up to this point enables you to play Blitzball from save points at any time.
Talk to people. Not everyone you talk to is a Blitzball player. Walk up to characters in the "Final Fantasy X" world and hit the "Square" button. A screen pops up if they play Blitzball. Certain information will be shown, depending on how many games you've won. At first you can only see their contract situation and have the option to sign them if they are a free agent. Sign them in this screen, choosing how many games to keep them for.
Poach players from other teams. Hit "Square" in front of a Blitzballl player. The personal information screen shows you exactly how many games are left on his contract. Play games against his team to free him of his current contractual obligation. Access the Blitztball menu from a save point. Select "Exhibition." Play against an athlete's team twice if he has two games left on his contract. Find free agents in the main cities --- especially Luca on the southern tip of the main continent --- and other locations in the game world.
Retain your good players. Keeping your own players is as important as signing free agents. Select the "Team Data" menu from the Blitzball screen. Look at how many games are left on your players' contracts. After the game in which the contract expires, you are given the chance to resign them. If you choose not to, but change your mind later, you can find them around the game world.
Win Blitzball games. The more games you win, the more information you see when speaking to Blitzball players. When you pull up a player's personal information, you begin to see their playing stats and attributes. When you win more games, you'll see more information about the players. Win 30 matches to see all the available data.
