Start your "Need for Speed Carbon" career mode from the title menu of the game. An introduction video plays, and you are flung into an immediate racing situation in which you need to escape a driver who is chasing you. Drive through the scenario to reach a new cut-scene, in which you learn the story behind your game character. When the cut-scene is finished, a new menu appears, allowing you to select a starting car.
Choose the Chevrolet Camaro SS as your starting car. The Camaro is in the muscle car class, which is the category that you need to work on and unlock in order to obtain the '67 Mustang. When you have selected your car, choose whether you want to play the game using automatic or manual gear shifting. You are then put into a tutorial-type racing situation, where you can learn some of the details of the game mechanics.
Complete the tutorial races to enter the regular career mode game. When you have finished the tutorials, you then go back to your garage where you can customize your car, view the city map to select races to join and customize your crew options, including the crew members and logo.
Take over territories on the map by winning races in regions of the city map. Join these races from your garage menu, where you can see which racing crews have control over specific territories. Once you have gained control of the entire map by winning enough races, you have unlocked the first tier of car and parts. Unlocking the '67 Ford Mustang requires you to complete two tiers of unlocks.
Control the Infinity Park territory while in your third tier of game unlocks to get access to the 1967 Ford Mustang in your garage. Win the race against the Infinity Park boss, Poorboy, to unlock the vehicle.
