How to Check a PS3 Game to See if It Is for 3.41 or 3.55

Checking to see if a PS3 game requires the 3.41 or 3.55 system update is easy. PS3 games that have a minimum system software requirement will have that software stored on the game disc, so if your system needs updating, you will be informed when you try to run the game. Alternatively, you can connect to the Internet and update your system to the latest version; your system software can never be too updated.

  Power on your PS3.

  Insert the game disc.

  Navigate to the game disc using the XMB -- Xross Media Bar -- and press the right arrow on the D-pad. This should expand the game disc. If there is a system update, you will see the latest version the game requires. It will be listed as "System Software Version 3.55" or something similar, depending on the version it requires.

  Highlight the game again and press the "X" button to start the game. If your system needs to be updated in order for the game to run, you will be asked to confirm this process. Do so.
