How to Hex Edit a PS3 Game Control Setup

All computer files are made up of binary information. To access and change the information inside a computer file, including game files like a PlayStation 3 (PS3) game file, you can use a hex editor that changes the binary information into hexadecimal format. Hex editing is just a matter of finding the correct hexadecimal string and changing it to suit your needs. Every piece of information stored in a file can be edited with a hex editor, including PS3 game file control setups.

      Download a free hex editor for your PC. Freeware Hex Editor XVI32, HxD and Hex Edit are all free hex editors. Click on the file that mounts on your desktop and select "Run" to load the file. Click "Install." Select "Next" and "Finish" to complete the installation.

      Open the hex editor and choose "Open" from the File menu. Select the PS3 game file you want to edit and click "Open."

      Select "Search" from the menu and type in the hexadecimal string for the controller setup for that game. Each game will have a different hex string for the controller setup. Click "Search."

      Select the hex string from the results and click "Edit." Input the new hexadecimal values to change the controller setup. Click "Overwrite."

      Select "Save" from the "File" menu and click "OK."
