The Most Powerful Runes in Puzzle Quest for PSP

"Puzzle Quest: Challenge Of The Warlords," commonly known as "Puzzle Quest," is a game mixing elements of different genres including role-playing, strategy and puzzle games. It was originally released for the PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS in 2007. Versions for other platforms have since been released but the use of runes is the same in each version. To use runes, the player must build a forge in his citadel. Three basic categories of rune can then be combined to forge new items. To successfully forge the item, the player must complete a forging mini-game.

Categories of Runes
- The three basic categories of rune are Base Rune, Power Rune, and Modifier Rune; one of each must be combined to forge a single item. There are many different runes in each category, and each individual rune confers a different bonus to the item they are used to create. When you first build a forge, you will receive your first three runes. These are the Rune Of Daggers Base Rune, the Rune Of Fire Power Rune, and the Rune Of Crafting Modifier Rune. These can be used to create a magic dagger. More powerful runes of each category are guarded by various enemies throughout the game. To obtain any rune after the first three, you must defeat the enemies guarding them. Runes are not consumed by the forging process, and can be reused in different combinations.
Base Runes
- Base Runes determine the type of item that will be forged, such as Weapon, Accessory, or Helmet. Each gives a bonus to the item it is used to create. The Rune Of Axes gives the biggest Weapon damage bonus, adding +3 to damage whenever you do 6 or more damage. The Rune Of Staves is an effective weapon for magic-based classes, adding +1 to Earth, Fire, Water, and Air Mastery skills. The Rune Of Jewels produces a helmet that adds +2 to damage for each full Mana Reserve when doing 3 or more damage. The Rune Of Shields produces an accessory that damages an opponent when the player receives 6 or more damage.
Power Runes
- Power Runes provide the item with an additional bonus. Bonuses include increases to Resistances and Mana Reserves. The most effective rune can therefore depend on the situation and opponent faced. Some Power Runes do give offensive bonuses. The Rune of Poison gives a 20 percent chance to Poison when inflicting damage, and the Rune Of Plague gives a 20 percent chance to cause plague when inflicting damage. Both are powerful offensive runes when combined with a Weapon Base Rune.
Modifier Runes
- Modifier Runes modify the bonuses given by Base and Power Runes. The most powerful are the Rune Of Dragons, which adds +5 to Base Rune ability, and the Rune Of Gods, which adds +4 to Base Rune ability and +100% to Power Rune ability.
