How to Fix Scratched PSP Games

The PlayStation Portable is a hand-held video game system that utilizes UMD discs to play games. While capable of storing large quantities of data, these UMD discs are susceptible to scratching if stored improperly. If your UMD disc is scratched and no longer will play in your PSP, attempt to fix the scratch with a home solution. Properly clean the disc and return it to its original playable state.

Things You'll Need

  • Dish detergent

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your faucet on to a steady stream of warm water, insert the scratched disc under the gentle stream and apply a small amount of the detergent directly onto the scratched surface. Gently apply the detergent with your fingers, working from the center of the PSP disc to the outside edges.

    • 2

Rinse the detergent completely from the PSP disc's surface and allow it air dry completely before continuing.

    • 3

Hold the PSP disc in one hand so that the scratched surface is facing upward, then apply a small amount of non-gel toothpaste to the surface as you did with the detergent. Allow the toothpaste to settle for six to eight minutes before continuing.

    • 4

Rinse the toothpaste completely off of the PSP disc with the warm water from the faucet.

    • 5

Place the PSP disc onto a few layers of paper towels so that the scratched side is facing upward, and allow it to air dry. Once it is completely dry, you can test the disc in your PSP.
