How to Change DVD Drivers on a PS2 Slimline

The PS2 Slim is an ultra-thin version of the popular PS2 game console. Like the regular PS2, it is equipped with a disc drive that's used to play games and DVDs. Fortunately, if you have been having problems with the disc drive on your PS2 Slim you can actually open up the unit to remove and replace it.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your PS2 Slim, unplug the cables from the back of the unit and turn it upside down.

    • 2

Use the tip of your screwdriver to pop the covers off of the six screws located on the outer edges of the underside of the unit. Then remove the screws themselves.

    • 3

Lift the bottom housing off of the unit to expose the internal components of the device. The square, metal DVD drive will be visible in the side of the unit.

    • 4

Locate the square black fan on top of the DVD drive and remove all screws holding it in place. Unplug the fan cable and remove the fan.

    • 5

Remove the screws from the corners of the DVD drive and lift it out of the housing. Fit a new drive in its place and reverse the steps for reassembly.
