Things You'll Need
Instructions
Download all necessary programs including Guitar Pro (version 4.0 or later), GH Explorer, DVD Decrypter and Swap Magic from the sites listed in References. There may be other programs that accomplish similar functions; for instance DVD Decrypter can be replaced with any program that makes ISO (International Standards Organization) files. Swap Magic is not needed if your PlayStation 2 has a modification chip installed. Newer versions of these programs may have slightly different instructions, but they will be very similar in nature.
Insert your Guitar Hero 3 game into your computer's DVD drive. Open the GH Explorer program. The program will display the information for Guitar Hero 3 in the program where you can edit its information.
Explore the Guitar Hero 3 DVD you have created by clicking on its icon using the GH Explorer program. Change the file name of one of the songs into the name you would like the custom song to be called.
Convert the MP3 of your custom song into a MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) file using the Guitar Pro software. Open the program and click "File" and "Convert." Select the MP3 file you wish to convert from the Explorer window and click "Convert."
Drag the MIDI file of your custom song into the GH Explorer program. Place it in the folder where you have changed the song list file name. The song will be converted to PlayStation 2 data. Save the edited folder.
Open the DVD Decrypter program. Click on "File" and "Create ISO" and select the edited Guitar Hero 3 DVD. Click "Create ISO" again to convert the data. Use your DVD burning software to burn the ISO file onto the blank DVD.
Follow the instructions on your Swap Magic software to install the necessary hardware. Open the Swap Magic program and click "Load Program." Insert the new DVD into the PlayStation 2. Your Guitar Hero 3 game will load as normal and your custom song will be available to play.
