How to Clean a Game Disk for a PS2

One of the most frustrating things for gamers is for a disc to malfunction mid-gameplay. More often than not, this problem occurs because the disc is dirty. Since the Playstation 2 uses DVD technology for its games, you may recognize errors you've seen caused by dirty DVDs. Dirty discs could cause your game to freeze, skip or create disc read/load errors in your PS2. Fortunately, cleaning your PS2 discs is a fast and easy process that can be completed in just a few simple steps.

Things You'll Need

  • Lint-free cloth
  • Isopropyl alcohol

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the disc in your hand without touching the data side and gently blow on it to remove any loose particles. This will help avoid making small scratches on the disc when you wipe it with the cloth.

    • 2

Wipe the disc with the cloth using gentle, circular motions. You may notice some bits of dust or other substances stuck to the disc if it's particularly dirty, but don't scrape at them with the dry cloth or your fingernail.

    • 3

Pour a small amount of alcohol onto the cloth and wipe the disc again using gentle circular motions. The alcohol should loosen up any stuck-on particles, making them easier to strip from the disc without the need for excessive pressure, which could damage the surface.

    • 4

Allow the disc to dry completely before loading it into your PS2. Loading a wet disc into your machine could damage the laser or other internal mechanisms.
