How to Unlock the Fist of Ruin in Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks

"Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks" takes the Shaolin monk characters Liu Kang and Kung Lao out of the fighting area and puts them in Outworld to track down the Outworld Emperor Shao Kahn. As you play through the early parts of the game, you come across statues that block your path through the game or to access secret areas for unlockable items. These statues can only be destroyed after you unlock the Fist of Ruin, the second of the special abilities you learn throughout the game.

Instructions

  Go through the portal from Wu Shi Academy to the Portal Nexus. Defeat the two Shadow Priests and take the path leading to the right.

  Take the upper path when it splits, jump across the gap, up the ledges and follow the right-side path to the end to find a portal. Go through this portal.

  Go up the steps to enter the Evil Monastery. Proceed through this area; Princess Kitana will appear and goad you into following her.

  Continue following Kitana to the top of the monastery. You will reach a save point, so take this opportunity to save your game.

  Start the fight with Kitana with projectile attacks -- Liu Kang's fireball or Kung Lao's hat throw -- to counter her fan attacks. Dodge her fans and move in close to attack with a combo while she recovers, or stay back and use projectiles. Repeat until she flees.

  Travel through the next portal, where Kitana will be joined by Mileena and Jade after a brief scene. Kitana, at this point, is under a brainwashing spell. Attack Kitana until she's stunned; your character will throw her onto the central pedestal to remove the brainwashing.

  Keep Mileena and Jade away from Kitana, because they will try to remove her from the device's effect. Once the indicator meter runs out, Kitana will drop to her knees and be out of the fight, leaving you to face the other two. You can use the spiked areas at the edges of the arena to trap one of them temporarily and focus on the other. When you defeat them, they will flee.

  Pick up the token that appears after Kitana leaves the arena. This gives you the Fist of Ruin. Hold and release the "Circle" (PS2) or "B" (Xbox 360) button to use it.
