How Do I Beat Oswald in Odin Sphere?

"Odin Sphere" is a 2-D side-scrolling action role-playing game for the PlayStation 2. The game is divided into five majors stories, each of which has its own protagonist but is still connected to the other four story lines. Oswald is both a supporting character in chapters 3, 4 and 5, and the end boss of Chapter 2. He is one of the more difficult bosses to defeat because of his high speed and maneuverability, and the fact that you can't outrun his attacks.

Instructions

- 1
  Move away from Oswald as soon as the fight starts. You want to keep a long distance between yourself and Oswald to give yourself time to dodge his attacks.

  Shoot Oswald with your crossbow from a distance. Never try to shoot more than twice, since this will give Oswald an opening and allow him to hit you after you fire the third shot.

  Keep an eye on Oswald's attack patterns when he transforms into his shadow form. He is too fast for you to run away from in this form, so you will have to dodge instead.

  Land on the ground quickly and dash away from Oswald when he uses his double-jump attack. He performs this attack while you are flying in the air.

  Jump and fly up and away from Oswald if he attacks you with his sword. This attack comes while you both are on the ground.
- 6
  Close and pummel Oswald with your strongest attacks when he leaves his shadow form. He will not move for several seconds and is vulnerable.
- 7
  Use your Blizzard Attack to freeze the two fairies that try to heal Oswald.
- 8
  Use your Piercing Attack when you have an opening. This will do massive damage to Oswald, though it may leave you open to a counter-attack.
