How to Fix Lag Problems on a PS3 Run Off of Wi-Fi

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) is a gaming and entertainment system that can connect to your Wi-Fi network for online gaming. While a wireless network provides the freedom to place your system anywhere within the Wi-Fi signal range, that does not mean the quality of the signal will be strong enough to play games. If you are experiencing slow down, called lag, in online game response times, you may need to troubleshoot your network placement and firmware.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect to your network using a quality router, such as Cisco, Linksys or D-Link.

    • 2

Turn off all other computers and wireless devices that may share the Wi-Fi connection.

    • 3

Move your PlayStation 3 system closer to your Wi-Fi router and ensure the router antenna is not obstructed or covered. This will provide your system with a stronger signal and prevent solid objects, such as walls, from weakening the connection.

    • 4

Ensure that your PlayStation 3 has the newest firmware update. Updates fix bugs and help your gaming system run better.

    • 5

Ensure your Wi-Fi router has the newest firmware update. Download the newest firmware software from the router̵7;s manufacturer website. The update process will be different depending on your router̵7;s brand, so you must refer to the router manual to review the proper procedure.
