How to Have Music on During a PS3 Game

While the main function of the PlayStation 3 is playing games, it also supports playing other types of media, including music. You can play your own music in the background while playing a game. While not all PS3 games allow users to play background music, those supporting the feature only require you to import the music to the hard drive.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert a CD, USB drive or other media containing your music files into the PS3.

    • 2

Scroll to the "Music" column on the XrossMediaBar (XMB).

    • 3

Press the down arrow to select the source of your music, then press the Triangle button. Select "Copy" and press "X" to import the music onto your system's hard drive.

    • 4

Launch a game on your PS3, then press the "PS" button to open the XMB.

    • 5

Scroll to the "Music" column and locate your imported music files. Press "X" on one of the files to start playback.

    • 6

Press the "PS" button to return to your game and leave the music playing in the background.
