How to Get My Blu-ray Player to Work on My PS3

The Playstation 3 (PS3) by Sony can play Blu-ray disks in addition to supporting CD and DVD media. All games and other media on the PS3 are controlled through the XrossMediaBar (XMB), which is also used in the Sony PSP handheld video game system. Though PS3 and PSP veterans generally understand how to use the XMB, new PS3 owners may not know how to navigate it so that they can play Blu-ray disks.

      Insert the Blu-ray disk into the PS3 with the label facing up. In most cases the movie starts automatically. You need to use the menu system to start the movie if it was already inserted in your machine or if it doesn't automatically start.

      Press the left or right buttons on the PS3 controller to highlight the Video icon on the XMB menu.

      Push the down button on the PS3 controller to highlight BDMV and press the "X" button to start the Blu-ray disk.
