How to Hook Up My PS3 as a Wired Media Server

The PlayStation3 can be connected to your home network via an Ethernet cable to connect to a Media Server. A Media Server is a device, such as a computer, that can share files with other Media Server compatible devices like the PS3. A wired connection is generally more stable and able to stream content without much delay or other issues commonly encountered when using a wireless connection. The Media Server connection must be enabled on the PS3 before it will work.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect an Ethernet cable to the "Ethernet" port on the back of the PS3 and connect the opposite side of the Ethernet cable into the "Ethernet" port on your network's router.

    • 2

Go to the "Settings" icon on the PS3 menu. Select "Network Settings."

    • 3

Select "Media Server Connection." Select "Enable."
