How to Hook Up LAN for PS3

A LAN, or local area network, is a local network that connects several devices to the same network. This is an especially popular option for gamers who love to play games with their friends. Most PlayStation 3 consoles have a wireless LAN built into the system and require only a router to connect to the Internet and allow other PS3s to connect to its LAN. The only obstacle to adding further systems to the network is to setup the additional PS3s so that they can find and join the LAN.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect your router to the Internet by following the manufacturer's instructions included with the device.

    • 2

Select the "Settings" menu, then the "Network Settings" submenu, from the PS3 home screen.

    • 3

Select "Internet Connection Settings" from the "Network Settings" menu then select "OK" if you receive a screen stating that your PS3 will be disconnected from the Internet.

    • 4

Select the "Easy" setting method option then select whether your network is wired or wireless. If it is wired, then connect the PS3s into the Ethernet ports on your router using the Ethernet cables. This will connect your PS3s together on the same network.

    • 5

Select "Scan" from the WLAN settings menu, if you are using a wireless connection.

    • 6

Select the access point you want to use. This will be the network that you created when you setup your router. Then select the type of security format your router uses. These formats include WEP, WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK. Check your router documentation to learn how to determine your security setting.

    • 7

Enter the security key that you created when setting up your wireless network then save the settings.

    • 8

Select "Test Connection" on each PS3 to confirm that it is connected to the network. Your systems are now connected on the LAN.
