How to Make a PS3 See the Controller at Startup

The Sony PlayStation 3 video game console supports two types of controllers. The Dualshock 3 controller is a wireless controller that has rumble features built-in to the controller, so you will feel shocks and sensations while playing certain games. The Sixaxis wireless controller features motion technology, which is used to play some games with motion controls. Both controllers can be synced to the PlayStation 3 console and recognized when the system is turned on.

  Press the "PS" button in the center of the controller to power on the controller and the console at the same time. This controller will be synced to the console.

  Plug a USB cable from the port on the PlayStation 3 console to the port on the top of the PlayStation 3 controller.

  Turn on the console by pressing the power button on the console or by pressing the "PS" button in the center of the controller. This method is useful if the controller needs to be charged.

  Assign a number to the controller by pressing the "PS" button. A red LED on the top of the controller will indicate what number the controller is assigned. Up to four controllers can be synced to a single console.
