How to Troubleshoot a PS3 Move Camera

The PlayStation Move is a motion-sensing game controller. The Move utilizes a handheld controller and a camera to detect the motion of players. This information is transmitted to the video game console and registered as movement in the game. Due to the sensitivity of the motion-sensing technology, there are several things that can cause the PlayStation Move to malfunction. Fortunately, troubleshooting the Move camera is fairly simple.

Instructions

  1. Move Camera Setup

    • 1

Turn off your PlayStation system. Disconnect the Eye camera from the PS console. Pull the USB connector from the USB port. Wipe the surface of the Eye camera with a soft, dry cloth. Apply air pressure to the camera lens using a can of compressed air.

    • 2

Connect the Eye camera to the PS console. Firmly insert the USB connector into the USB port. Wait for the blue LED power indicator on the front of the camera to light up. This means the camera is connected and ready to use.

    • 3

Place the camera in a safe area near the television console. Avoid placing the camera in an area where it can be easily jolted or damaged.

    Move Camera Troubleshooting

    • 4

Ensure that there is adequate lighting in the room if the Eye Camera is not picking up movements. Look around the room for flickering lights or other light sources that may be causing problems. Avoid using low-energy bulbs with the Eye camera as these often cause low-light environments.

    • 5

Ensure that there is no other movement around you if the Eye camera is activating buttons without your movement. The Eye camera is designed to pick up any movement. Pet movement can activate the controls of the Eye camera. Set up the room in a way that you limit background movement.

    • 6

Adjust the lighting in the room if your Eye camera image is too bright or too dark. Place additional lighting in the room or close the curtains as necessary. Ensure the Eye camera is plugged in if you cannot see an image at all. Look for the blue power indicator light in the front. Position the camera so that it is facing your body.
