Save PUP File to USB Flash Drive
Download the PUP file from the PlayStation website and save it to your computer's desktop. Right-click on the PUP file and select "Copy" from the shortcut menu.
Plug the USB flash drive into an unused USB port on your computer.
Open the folder for the USB device if it fails to open automatically.
Right-click on an empty area in the USB folder window. Point to "New" in the shortcut menu. Select "Folder." Name the new folder "PS3."
Open the "PS3" folder. Right-click on an empty area in the "PS3" folder. Point to "New" in the shortcut menu. Select "Folder." Name the new folder "UPDATE."
Right-click on an empty area in the "UPDATE" folder window. Select "Paste" from the shortcut menu to transfer a copy of the PUP file to the USB flash drive.
Right-click on the PUP file. Select "Rename" from the shortcut menu. Name the file "PS3UPDAT.PUP."
Install PUP File on PS3
Turn on your PS3 and TV.
Unplug the USB flash drive from the computer. Plug the USB flash drive into the PS3.
Use the arrow buttons on the PS3 controller to navigate to the "Settings" menu. Highlight "System Update" in the menu. Press the "X" button on the controller.
Highlight "Update via Storage Media" and press the "X" button. The PS3 will conduct a search for update data saved on the USB flash drive. You will be prompted when the update is found.
Press the "X" button on the controller once the update is found. Follow the remaining on-screen prompts to finish the update and install the PUP file. Do not unplug the USB device from the PS3 until the installation is complete.
