How to Format Music for PS3

In addition to playing video games, Blu-ray movies, and digital video, the PlayStation 3 can also be used as a digital music playback device. Thanks to the PS3's intuitive UI, formatting and loading music onto the game console is a simple process. The PlayStation 3 only plays back the MP3 format natively, so all your music will need to be in this format before you can listen to it on the console.

Instructions

    • 1

Load all the music you want to have on your PlayStation 3 into one folder on your computer. The desktop is the most convenient place to put this folder.

    • 2

Download a music conversion program. Free software like iTunes and Audacity work very well to convert music to the MP3 format.

    • 3

Load the music files into the program and then convert them to MP3. Each program is different, so see your user's guide for specific instructions on how to convert music to the MP3 format.

    • 4

Insert a USB memory stick into your computer and open it on your computer. Drag the MP3 files to the USB stick.

    • 5

Remove the USB memory stick from your computer and connect it to your PS3. Turn the system on and go to the "Music" icon on the XMB. Select your songs from there.
