Call your Internet provider's customer service line to ensure that your Internet service is active. For example, if you have Internet service through your phone company, dial "611" to reach your customer service agent. Tell the agent that you are trying to connect your PS3 to the Internet and you simply want to make sure that the connection is active.
Make sure that your system is set to use "Ethernet" or a "wired" connection to the Internet. Your system may be erroneously set to connect wirelessly. Connect your Ethernet cable to the rear of the PS3. Select "Settings," "Network Settings," "Internet Connection Settings" and select "Yes." Select "Easy" and "Save." Select "Test Connection" to make sure that the connection is active.
Check to see that the wireless connection settings are correct. Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is powered on and connected. The router is the access point that the PS3 connects to in order to get an Internet connection. Select "Settings," "Network Settings," and "Internet Connection Settings." Select "Yes," "Easy" and "Wireless." Select "Scan" and click on an available Wi-Fi connection. Select the security type and enter the Wi-Fi password. Click "Save" and "Test Connection."
