How to Get Rid of a JB CFW on a PS3 Slim

Custom firmware has a lot of benefits on the Sony PSP, and literally turns the hand-held device into in all-in-one gaming machine. But when CFW is installed onto the Sony PS3 it is a different story. PSP custom firmware has been in development since 2006, the same year the PS3 was released. PS3 custom firmware first saw the light of day at the end of 2010, and provided many of the same benefits it give to PSP users. A major drawback is that you lose all access to the PlayStation Network, an online gaming store and community. If going online is worth it, you need to rid your PS3 of CFW and install Sony official firmware.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the "Settings" heading in the PS3 menu and select the "System Update" subheading.

    • 2

Select "Update via Internet" on the next screen. The PS3 connects to the Sony update server and checks to see if there are any software updates available. As you are on CFW, you are always given the opportunity to return to Sony firmware.

    • 3

Select the "Download" option when the results are returned from update search. The PS3 downloads the software update directly to the PS3 hard drive.

    • 4

Select the "Accept" option when the download completes. This gives Sony the notification that you agree to the terms and risks of the software update.

    • 5

Press the "X" button to update the PS3 software, getting rid of the jailbroken CFW on the PS3 and replacing it with official Sony firmware. The PS3 will reboot during the procedure.
