How to Activate 3-D on the PS3

The Sony PlayStation 3, or PS3 for short, has always been able to play both regular DVDs and Blu-Ray discs in addition to video games. An update from Sony now allows the popular gaming system to be upgraded to play 3-D discs as well. Of course, you must have a 3-D capable television in order to see the movies in 3-D, but if you do (or even if you just plan on purchasing this type of television later), the process to activate 3-D on the PS3 takes just a few minutes.

Instructions

  Turn on your television and PS3. Once loaded, click on "Settings" and then "System Update."

  Select update 3.530, which includes the 3-D software update. You can also select and download any other updates that may be waiting for you as well.

  Click on "Settings" once the update is complete. If you don't wait until the updates are complete, the next steps won't work.

  Click on "Display Settings" then "Video Output Settings." Allow the PS3 to search for your television. This should only take a few seconds. Once PS3 has found your TV, it will tell you its compatibility level, including 3-D compatibility. Adjust the size of the television on the PS3 screen, if necessary.

  Insert a 3-D Blu-Ray disc or a 3-D game into the PS3. Put on your 3-D glasses and press "Play" to watch in 3-D.
