How to Charge a PS3 Controller Using a Wall Outlet

Although PlayStation 3 (PS3) gaming controllers are generally charged directly from the console using a USB cable, charging them with an AC power adapter is just as efficient. Using an AC adapter may be necessary if all the USB ports on your console are otherwise occupied. PS3 wireless controllers run out of power even when you aren't using them, so charging them is often necessary.

  Purchase a Sony PlayStation 3 AC Adapter if you don't already have one. The unit includes one 4.92-foot-long USB cable (type A, Mini B) and one 6.56-foot-long AC cord.

  Connect one end of USB cable into the USB port on your controller and then connect the other end into a USB port on the adapter.

  Connect the AC cord into the power port on the adapter and then plug it into a wall outlet. Leave the controller alone until it is fully charged and then disconnect it from the adapter.
