How to Free Up Room on a PS3 HDD

Sony's PlayStation 3 console was the first iteration of the PlayStation to come with a built-in hard drive. Many PS3 games would install portions of the game content onto the hard drive to decrease loading times or to increase system performance. Users can also download and install game demos and other media onto the hard drive if they so desire. Of course, this means that the space on the hard drive will fill up fairly rapidly, so from time to time you will need to go in and delete old and unused files to free up space.

Instructions

  1. Deleting Game Information/Demos

    • 1

Turn on your PS3 and select the "Game" option from the main menu. Select "Game Data Utility" before continuing to the next step if you wish to delete game information rather than just a demo.

    • 2

Scroll down the list (either of game data or game demos, depending on which menu you are in) until you locate the entry you wish to delete.

    • 3

Highlight the entry and press the "Triangle" button on your PS3 controller.

    • 4

      Select the "Information" option.

    • 5

Select "Delete" and confirm your decision when prompted. This will delete the information or demo off of your PS3's hard drive.
