"Dead Space Extraction"
"Dead Space: Extraction," a rail shooter, was originally released for the Nintendo Wii and later ported to the PlayStation 3. "Dead Space: Extraction" is set before the events of "Dead Space" in the series timeline, and supports both the PS3's standard DualShock 3 controller and the PlayStation Move. All movement is performed automatically in the game, leaving the player able to focus solely on aiming and shooting all enemies as they appear on-screen. "Extraction" features 10 levels and a variety of difficulty settings. On the PlayStation 3, "Extraction" is a digital title with only two methods to download it.
Methods to Download "Dead Space Extraction"
Originally, "Dead Space: Extraction" was given away free to players who purchased "Dead Space 2" when it released in January 2011; the release day copies were titled "Dead Space 2: Limited Edition" with "Extraction" being included on the game disc as a bonus item. Limited edition copies of "Dead Space 2" are no longer sold new in stores; if you have purchased a used copy of the limited edition you still gain access to "Extraction" due to it residing on the disc. In addition, "Extraction" is available for purchase on the PlayStation Store as part of the PlayStation Network, accessible from the main menu of your PlayStation 3. At the time of publication, the cost is $14.99 to download "Extraction" from the PlayStation Store.
Downloading and Installing "Dead Space Extraction"
Downloading and installing "Extraction" depends on which version you have acquired. For players with the limited edition copy of the game, insert the "Dead Space 2 Limited Edition" disc into your PlayStation 3, highlight the "Extraction" icon under the "Game" menu and select "Install." You must have the "Dead Space 2" disc inserted to install and play "Extraction." For PlayStation Store copies, select "Download Now" after purchasing your copy. Once your copy has finished downloading, highlight "Extraction" under the "Game" menu and select "Install." You must 3.6 GB of free hard drive space to download and install "Extraction" regardless of the method you have acquired it by.
Freeing Up Space for "Dead Space Extraction."
If you do not have 3.6 GB of available space on your PlayStation 3 hard drive, you must delete content to free the appropriate amount of space. To do this, highlight the content you want to delete in the appropriate menu. For example, you may want to delete a downloaded movie from your "Video" menu, or some downloaded game content from the "Game" menu. Press "Triangle" on the highlighted content and select "Delete." To view the amount of free space you have on your PlayStation 3's hard drive, select "System Information" under the "System Settings" menu.
