Preparing the Apple iPod Touch
Download all of the necessary files for the PS3 downgrade from one of the many download mirrors on the Web. The download includes the WinSCP program and the downgrade folder. Install WinSCP onto your computer.
Press the "Cydia" app icon on the iPod Touch screen. Press the magnifying glass icon on the Cydia home screen.
Type in "OpenSSH" and press "Return" to show the search results. Press the first result that comes up, and press "Install."
Press the "Settings" icon on your iPod Touch and press "Wi-Fi" and press the small blue arrow next to your iPod Touch's connected network. Copy down the numbers next to the "IP Address."
Open WinSCP and type the IP address into the "Host Name" box on WinSCP. Type "root" as the username and "alpine" as the password. Click the "File Protocol" box and click "SCP."
Click "Login" to proceed. Click "OK" on the error window.
Open the "var" file directory on the WinSCP window.
Open the "Downgrade" folder you downloaded and you will see two folders, "Flash Drive" and "iPod iPhone." Open the "iPod iPhone" folder. Open the "IPT1G" folder and highlight the two files inside. Drag them into the "var" folder that is open on WinSCP.
Close the WinSCP window.
Open the "Flash Drive" folder inside the "Downgrade" folder. Plug the first USB flash drive into your computer and delete all the data in it.
Open the "First Step" folder found inside the "Flash Drive" folder and highlight both the files inside. Right-click one of them and click "Copy" from the context menu.
Right-click the USB flash drive icon on your computer's desktop and click "Paste." Unplug the USB flash drive when the copying procedure completes.
Insert the second USB flash drive into your computer's USB port. Delete all of the data in it. Open the "Second Step" folder in the "Flash Drive" folder and copy the file inside onto the second USB flash drive.
Downgrading the PS3
Turn off your Sony PS3 and Apple iPod Touch. Unplug the PS3 power cable and connect the Apple iPod Touch to your PS3's first USB port.
Turn the Apple iPod Touch on and press the "Power" button until the "Android" icon on the iPod Touch screen is selected. Press the "Home" button and plug the PS3's power cable back in immediately.
Watch as text scrolls down the Apple iPod Touch screen. When the text "Device Ready Wait" comes up on the Apple iPod Touch screen, press the "Power" button on the PS3 and immediately press the "Eject" button on the PS3.
Unplug the Apple iPod Touch from the PS3 when the PS3 turns off. Turn the PS3 back on. Plug the PS3 controller into your PS3 with the mini USB cable. Turn off the Sony PS3. Unplug the PS3 controller and insert the first USB flash drive into the far right USB port onto the PS3.
Turn on the PS3 and the downgraded firmware is installed. Remove the flash drive and turn the PS3 back on after it turns off again. Turn the PS3 off again and insert the second USB flash drive into the far right USB port on the PS3. Turn the PS3 on and the second USB flash drive will disable service mode on the PS3. Remove the USB flash drive and turn on the PS3 again to complete the downgrade procedure.
