How to Get Your PlayStation 3 Controller Connected to Your Computer

In 2006, Sony released the PlayStation 3 home gaming console. In addition to controlling the large library of games on the PlayStation 3, you can plug your six axis controller into your computer to control supported games. However, unlike other controllers, your computer will not recognize the PlayStation 3 six axis controller by default. You must use a unique filter driver prior to attaching the controller.

Instructions

  Download the require filter driver onto your desktop. Right-click the downloaded file and select "Extract Here."

  Double-click the extracted filter driver and follow the instructions to install it into your computer. You may need to reboot your computer.

  Double-click "PS3sixaxis_en.exe" to unpack the files onto your computer. Wait for the process to complete, which should only take a few minutes.

  Attach your six axis controller into your computer using its USB cable. Insert the smaller end into the top of your controller, and insert the other end into any available USB port on your computer.

  Double-click "PS3sixaxis_en.exe" once again to activate the files. Your controller will automatically power on, and it will function like any computer controller.
