How to Create a New Memory DMP File

Creating a memory .DMP file in the Windows operating system is handled through a native program called Task Manager. The Task Manager allows you to control nearly every aspect of the software running on your computer from one program window. You can open programs, close them or change their priority levels all from within this powerful native tool. Dump files contain information that can be used to troubleshoot a program and find out where problems originated from.

  Press "Ctrl + Alt + Del." Click "Start Task Manager." Alternatively, right-click the task bar and choose "Start Task Manager."

  Click the "Processes" tab. Each program name in this window represents a program running on your computer.

  Right-click the name of the program for which you want to create a memory dump file.

  Click "Create Dump File." The Task Manager will create a new .DMP file on your computer that represents the program. This file will be placed on your hard drive.
