How to Replace a Sony PS3 Wireless Controller

The Sony PlayStation 3 game console features Bluetooth support for up to 7 SixAxis or DUALSHOCK 3 wireless controllers. Both wireless controller types include two analog thumb-sticks, one directional "D-pad," four top-mounted paddle buttons, motion sensor and four right-mounted selection buttons. The DUALSHOCK 3 controller adds a "rumble" action, designed for use with supported game titles. Replacing your PlayStation 3 controller may prove necessary if the device's internal battery fails, or if physical damage renders the controller inoperable.

Instructions

    • 1

Connect the smaller end of the USB cable to the controller's USB charging port.

    • 2

Connect the remaining end of the USB cable to an available USB port on the PS3.

    • 3

Turn on the game console and press the center "PlayStation" button on the controller. Pressing the "PlayStation" button will pair the controller to game system.

    • 4

Allow the controller's internal battery to fully charge. When the top LEDs on the controller stop flashing, disconnect the USB cable.
