How to Reset the Resolution on a PS3

The PlayStation 3 (PS3) supports playback on all types of televisions, whether you own a high-definition or standard model. You may come up with a blank screen after moving your gaming console to a new television. This occurs when the console fails to acclimate to the resolution settings of the new television. You must use the PlayStation 3's basic controls to reset the video output settings in order to fix this problem.

      Turn on the PlayStation 3.

      Press and hold the unit's "Power" button until the console beeps and shuts off. Let go of the "Power" button when the console shuts off.

      Press and hold the "Power" button down again for five seconds. Release the button. The console powers on and displays a message asking you to confirm the detected video output settings.

      Choose "Yes." A message appears asking if you want the console to automatically optimize the resolution.

      Select "Yes." Select "Yes" again to confirm the settings.
