Instructions
Determine the A/V connection type used for the PS3. Component cables feature five RCA connector plugs, while composite cables use a total of three. HDMI connections use a single rectangular-shaped plug to carry video and audio signals.
Turn on the television followed by the game console. Select the appropriate input source on the television to display the PS3 XMB menu.
Navigate to the "Settings" menu using the game controller. Scroll down to "Display Settings" and press the "X" button.
Highlight the appropriate connection type listed on the screen and press the "X" button.
Press the "X" button and examine the available resolutions available. Refer to your television's documentation to determine the supported resolutions for the particular input connection used.
Place a check mark next to each supported resolution mode listed on the screen. If you wish to force the game console to run in only one supported resolution, uncheck all the resolution options you do not want, leaving only one desired resolution mode. Note that composite or S-video connections only operate under NTSC 480i or PAL 576i resolution modes.
Select the desired aspect ratio, if prompted. Select "16:9" if your television is wide screen. Choose the "4:3" option if the television is not.
Confirm the video settings to complete the configuration process.
