How to Obtain a Sniping Position in Battlefield: Bad Company

Move away from other players. Sniper rifles are best used at long ranges as you can only look through the scope when firing. If you stay in an area that is populated by enemies, they could flank you from the left or the right and you wouldn't be able to see their advancements until its too late.

Look for higher ground. If you walk up onto a hill, onto the ledge of a building or structure or find some similar elevated position, do so. The best sniping positions are elevated because you can get a wider, more accurate view of the battlefield below you.

Find a position that provides some cover. For example, get behind something large and peer over while using your sniper rifle, then quickly hide behind if enemies start to fire at you. This gives you time to react in the event that you're being shot at -- even a few extra seconds of time to think could mean the difference between your character living and dying.
