How to Switch a PlayStation 3 From HDMI to a Normal TV With the Black Screen

The Sony PlayStation 3 gaming console supports both standard- and high-definition video output, using different types of connections, including HDMI and standard AV composite video. When you're replacing an HDMI-connected HDTV with a SDTV using a non-HDMI connection, the PS3 will display a blank screen, as the video settings are still set to HDMI mode. To switch the display mode back to non-HDMI, you must reset the PS3 console to factory defaults.

  Turn off the system by holding the power button down until the power indicator light flashes. When the green light turns into a red light, the system is off.

  Hold down the power button for at least five seconds.

  Release the power button when the console beeps twice and the power indicator light blinks. The PS3 will reboot with all options set to factory default configuration.

  Reconfigure your settings, as all options will be reset. System, audio, video and network settings all must be reconfigured to restore the PS3 to your preferred user configuration.
