How to Hook Up the PlayStation 3 to an Onkyo HT-SR800

The Onkyo HT-SR800 is a surround-sound system. If you own one and a PlayStation 3, then you should hook up your PlayStation 3 to your Onkyo HT-SR800 for the best sound quality. This allows you to play your video games, watch DVDs and Blu-rays and enjoy the other features of the PlayStation 3 in the high-quality sound from the Onkyo HT-SR800. Hooking up the two devices is similar to hooking your television up to your PlayStation 3.

  Find the connections you have currently to your television. Determine if these are HDMI or component connections. The HDMI connection is a single flat prong, while component cables have five colored prongs.

  Connect the HDMI cable in the back of your PlayStation 3, then connect the other end to an open HDMI slot on your Onkyo HT-SR800, if you use HDMI connections. These slots are in the back of the receiver on the upper left-hand corner.

  Connect the A/V side of the component cables into the back of the PlayStation 3. This is a special connection that only fits in the PlayStation 3. Then connect the component cable end of the cables into the Onkyo HT-SR800's component cable section. This section is on the back left side directly under the HDMI cable section. When making the connections, be sure to match the colors of the cables to the colors of the jacks on the Onkyo HT-SR800.
