How to Save a PS2 Game Onto a PS3

Saving a PlayStation 2 game, when played on an actual PlayStation 2 console, requires the use of a memory card. Because the PlayStation 3 does not work with these memory cards but certain models of PS3s have the ability to play older PS2 games, you will need to create a virtual memory card on your system's hard drive if you want to save these older games on your PS3.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Sony PlayStation 3.

    • 2

Open the "Game" menu, and choose the "Memory Card Utility" option.

    • 3

Select "Create New Internal Memory Card."

    • 4

Select the "PlayStation 2" memory card option, and press "X". This will create a new internal memory card on your PS3 hard drive designed to be formatted to save PS2 game data.

    • 5

Press the "Triangle" button while your PS2 internal memory card is highlighted.

    • 6

      Select "Assign Slots."

    • 7

Select "Slot 1," and press "X". This makes the internal memory card available to the PlayStation 2 games that you play, so when you get the opportunity to save (either from the main menu or at a save point, depending on specifically which game you're playing), your data will be saved to the internal memory card.
