How to Put a PlayStation 3 Onto a Network

Unlike the Sony PlayStation 2, the PlayStation 3 has all of the equipment that it needs to connect to a home network already built into its case. To connect your PlayStation 3 to a home network for the purpose of online game play (or to have a Blu-ray player connected to the Internet), adjust your PS3's system settings and point it in the right direction.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your Sony PlayStation 3. If you have a game in your system and it automatically loads, press the "PS" logo button on your controller to load the system's main menu.

    • 2

Open the "Settings" option on the far left side of the PlayStation 3's main menu. From here, choose "Network Settings."

    • 3

Open "Internet Connection Settings." From the list of options that appears, choose "Easy," followed by "Wireless."

    • 4

Select the "Scan" option. When the PlayStation 3 returns a list of the names of available wireless networks, select the name of your home's network.

    • 5

Specify the type of security protection that the network you are connecting to has. If no password is required, for example, choose "None." If a password is required, specify the password type and then enter the password into the prompt. Select the "Save" option to finish adding your PlayStation 3 to your specified network.
