No Power on My PS3 60 GB: Bad Power Supply?

Sony PlayStation 3 60 GB power problems can arise from a few different sources. There could be issues with the power source, the AC power cord. The console itself may have a non-working part. There could be obstructions that are causing the console too overheat and not turn on, or the television's input could be incorrect. To determine if the actual PS3 power supply is bad, you need to check a few different things.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the PS3 LED lights to determine what the problem is. The left light is the disc status, and the right light is the power status. If no lights are on, the PS3 power switch is off. A solid red light means the PS3 is off or in standby mode. A flashing red light means the PS3 has overheated. A light that flashes green to yellow to red means that the PS3 has a flawed internal part. Contact Sony for repairs.

    • 2

Turn on the PS3 60 GB system using the main power switch on the back of the console.

    • 3

Insert the AC power cord completely and firmly into its connection. If it's loose, it will fail to power on the PS3. Also examine the AC power cord for damage.

    • 4

Plug the AC power cord into another working power outlet to see if your current power outlet is the problem.

    • 5

Remove any objects from the PS3's vents. If the vents are obstructed, this will cause the PS3 to overheat and turn off. At least four inches of clearance is required between the air vents and any other devices, objects or walls.

    • 6

Find the PS3 model number which is located on the back of the console on the bar code sticker. Underneath the bar code is a model number that begins with "CECH." Call Sony customer service at 800-345-7669 (or 800-345-SONY), and verify that the console model is made for use in North America. PS3 consoles made for use in other regions have different power requirements.

Set your television to the correct input that displays PS3 video. The exact instructions for switching the input vary per television set. If, you connected the PS3 to the television using an HDMI cable, for example, click the "Input/Source" option on your TV remote control and select the HDMI input. If you see a solid green LED light, the PS3 is on but you can't view it on your television.
